Nephi 25:14
14
And behold it shall come to pass that after the Messiah hath risen
from the dead, and hath manifested himself unto his people, unto as
many as will believe on his name, behold, Jerusalem shall be
destroyed again; for wo unto them that fight against God and the
people of his church.
In 66 AD the Roman army invaded
Judea because of the rebellion of the Jews. The siege of Jerusalem
lasted 4 years resulting in the killing of over one million Jews and
97,000 being taken captive. The nation of Judea, the city of
Jerusalem and the temple were all destroyed. Will Durant records that
“The destruction of the temple marked the end… of the Jewish
state…. Judea was almost shorn of Jews, and those that remained
lived on the edge of starvation.” (Will
Durant, The
Story of Civilization,
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1944, 3:545)
